Biography

    Mila Fejzo is a multidisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles whose practice centers on navigating selfhood and the process of self-acceptance. Their work draws on their synesthesia, a condition which seamlessly weaves together various sensory inputs, to make artistic choices like color, pattern, and composition. Working across oil painting, drawing, and ceramics, they depict imaginary environments filled with figurative and organic forms. 

 

    Fejzo’s practice develops alongside their lived experience as a disabled, non-binary artist navigating multiple chronic illnesses, constant physical pain, and gender dysphoria. During periods of intense discomfort, often leading to necessary immobility and rest, Fejzo drops into their imagination to connect with the natural and celestial. Fejzo’s work makes their internal universe tangible through their depictions of genderless figures inhabiting natural spaces. 

 

    In addition to their studio practice, Fejzo is deeply committed to supporting young artists and fostering creative communities. While they are currently on disability, Fejzo has worked extensively as an arts educator, leading youth programming, workshops, museum tours, as well as studio and classroom instruction. Fejzo sees themselves as an educator at heart. Their middle school through high school art teacher, Claire Farin, completely changed the trajectory of their life, as Fejzo was not interested in art until taking Farin’s class in seventh grade. They hope to return to teaching in a capacity that aligns with their body's needs, driven by a desire to offer young artists even a fraction of the transformative mentorship Claire Farin provided them.
